Team Building - Leadership Program

The leadership programs at Lakeside Pottery have been specifically designed by The Executive Resource Center and Lakeside Pottery to achieve goals that we find our clients seek and that our medium can provide.

Benefits:

  1. Break down barriers
  2. Enhance communication
  3. Develop group problem solving
  4. Overcome obstacles
  5. Address the process issues of working together
  6. Gain dimension on colleagues' behavior

These goals are achieved by putting the team in new environment with unfamiliar kinds of challenges against which they can deploy their natural abilities. And that is why Lakeside Pottery is a distinctive and effective solution to building strong teams.

The Program: Lakeside Pottery program places your team in a scenario in which they must work together, communicate clearly and efficiently, distinguish tasks and roles, and handle obstacles that arise in the process of reaching a defined goal. All this may sound like "work", but at the same time, they are having a great time learning a new skill, getting to know each other and getting their hands "dirty" literally.

Lakeside Pottery Team Building uses the ancient form of pottery making to help bring your group together in a whole new way. It's really fairly simple. The team will be tasked to create a set of clay pieces that work as a unit toward a specific goal. An example might be build your companies product from clay. They will be guided from "strategic development" through "project planning and scheduling," through "skills development" and "execution," and finally, "testing." At the same time, they will be achieving all the goals described above. And, of course, each will be left, at the end, not only with a sense of satisfaction and grubby jeans, but with physical proof,,,, a reminder of the benefits of their efforts and of the team they worked with.

For millennia, clay has been one of the most lasting remnants of great efforts of past cultures. This primitive material and the skills required to work with it, have parallels to the work that many of us do today. These similarities contrast with the vast differences. Every day, many of us are using our fingers to arrange electrons on a screen to express our thoughts, while at Lakeside, we are using our hands to mold the physical into shapes and forms that serve our needs.

And working with clay evokes a kind of social interaction that doesn't happen "around the water cooler" or via teleconference. Taking advantage of having your team together, by engaging them in this most distinctive of team building exercises, you create a model for the types of interactions they will continue to use when they return to their offices and business challenges.
