Review Quotes

Note: We moved to Delaware in 2016 and no longer offer classes - See current offerings (custom pottery and art restoration) reviews and rating in this link

"we took a private pottery lesson with Patty, one of the two owners. Patty was a joy to work with and clearly, an expert in working with clay. The class was fantastic. My two kids (9 and 12) and I each ended up with a slightly different and very attractive piece of pottery. We had a great time."

"On a whim, I took a beginner class here about 6 years ago and now I can't imagine my life without Lakeside Pottery in it. I'm a perpetual student and love it. I took wheel classes for the first few years and now I'm really enjoying the hand-building classes. Always something new to learn and create. The teachers are fun and so are my fellow classmates. Many of the people I've met here will be friends for life. Lakeside Pottery is a wonderful way to meet new people and learn new ways to create your own art. Just try it - you'll like it! "

"Something for everyone - Lakeside Pottery offers classes for all from the novice to the expert potter. I've created incredible pieces, learned more than I ever imagined, and kicked in my artistic side. Patty and Morty are wonderful, giving, and experts in their field."

"Lakeside Pottery has become my home away from home. A peaceful place to express yourself and to be surrounded by loving and passionate teachers and students. The studio was founded by Morty and Patty who are dedicated not only to pottery but to teaching the joys and freedom of expression it offers creative adults and small children. These gracious and dedicated owners bend over backwards to make every student's experience enriched and wonderful. The studio is beautifully maintained and offers great facilities and fosters a comfortable environment for every level of learning and expression. I came to my first class a complete beginner nervous and worried whether or not I would be able to pick it up but with johns effortless talent of teaching and Patty's magical hands and peaceful tone learning was a joy. I have spent hours and hours in their open studio feeling warm and welcomed...each time leaving inspired and eager to do more. Lakeside pottery has taken me to a new level of creativity that I have been craving and has given me a renewed confidence that even as an adult you can learn something new. As you can see by all of the fantastic reviews this is a SPECIAL one of a kind place that you will never want to leave. Patty,Morty,John THANK YOU!!! you have changed my future and inspired me to keep learning : ) oxoxooxoxo, Betty"

"LAKESIDE POTTERY is an oasis of creativity! The teachers have an amazing ability to teach all levels, to encourage latent talent and to give personal attention to each student. The atmosphere is positive and friendly. I highly recommend this studio to anyone seeking to learn more about the arts of ceramics."

"Lakeside Pottery is superb!! Patty and Morty have established an unbelievable environment for children and adults; whether it's for a birthday party, company work event, one-on-one class or children's after school session, they truly are the BEST! Both Patty and Morty are so talented and creative. And I must say, contrary to another posting, I have NEVER had any issues with re-scheduling nor canceling. They are fair and honest. You have to experience at least one class or just stop by their studio to see the beautiful creatoins."

"My experience with Lakeside Pottery over the past 3 years has been fantastic. I went to the studio in search of a wheel class to rekindle my love of pottery that I discovered in college. I spoke with Morty about registering and he was very helpful in getting me started. Upon starting in class with Jon (who is an awesome instructor), I was hooked! From then on, I took more classes and eventually moved on to independently working in the studio during "studio hours." The studio itself is very neat, clean and well maintained, which can be very challenging for a ceramic studio. Patty and Morty try very hard to keep the dust to a minimum and are very conscientious about the environment in which their students work. Safety is obviously a high priority for them, which I appreciate.

There were always wheels available when I came to use studio time. I never had to wait. The expansive glaze choices they offer (mixed and ready to go for you!) are great, and tested before you use them on your labor of love. There's nothing worse than making a beautiful pot, only to have it ruined by a bad glaze mixture! :( Patty and Morty are especially helpful in making sure that doesn't happen!

The sense of community at Lakeside Pottery is by far their strongest attribute. The warm welcoming feeling I received when I first stopped by was so great. It is a very peaceful, friendly environment. All the students are very nice and respectful of each other and their work. I never had any issues with curious hands to my covered work or damage to my pieces due to carelessness (which I have had happen at other studios.)

"My 2 boys, ages 8 and 10, thoroughly enjoyed their February break camp at Lakeside Pottery. The environment was exciting, the instructor fun and totally professional. In 4 days, the boys got a broad set of pottery experiences - skills they have brought back into their art program at school...they particularly loved working on the wheel! They would do it again in a heart-beat...."

Morty and Patty are just great people, and are truly "in the pottery business" to share the love of art with others. Not only are they each amazingly talented artists, they are both phenomenal teachers. They are committed to nurturing and encouraging their students to grow as artists, which is exactly what they did for me. I will forever be grateful for my experiences at Lakeside Pottery, and (having recently moved out of state) I miss them terribly!! Kristin"

"Fantastic!!! They have created an environment for not only learning, but for growing your creativity as well. Take a class, learn the techniques and tools, and they will support you as you evolve as an artist. A very supportive environment indeed! "

"My Experience at Lakeside Pottery - Getting My Hands Dirty -- This past weekend, I did something I've meant to do for quite some time: I checked out Lakeside Pottery. The last time I tried pottery was about 10 years ago. I took a class through a continuing ed program that was not Stamford's. The instructor had little interest in helping out beginners, so I spent a lot of time poking aimlessly at lumps of clay. A very different experience at Lakeside Pottery, for sure. Instructors Patty and Morty were friendly, encouraging, and very clear in their instructions. I left feeling empowered, energized, and excited to go back. Anne"

"I stumbled upon this incredible place two and a half years ago and haven't left since! The teachers are wonderful and fellow students are warm and interesting. My beginner class became like a little family, in fact, everything about the school and its studio has a kind, caring family feel. My pottery skills have come so far because of what this facility provides...which is everything! The studio is clean and organized, the glazes are beautiful and the kiln turn-around time is quick and efficient. I think the goal of the school is to help everyone to become successful (which carries over into life, by the way!) and they really do an amazing job! Cheryl"

"Lakeside Pottery is an activity that the senior citizens will never forget. Morty & Patty made the seniors feel as if they could create anything and that they did. Morty donated a few times to a group of seniors in the community and Patty made it worth their wild by helping them to relax and enjoy making vases and mugs. The experience to see the age 55-80 year old woman creating something was amazing. Then Morty offer them a reduce price to do a session for 6 weeks. Thank you Morty and Patty for your kind and giving heart of your gifts that you are willing to teach and train others. The Senior Citizen Group is still talking about it and they can't wait to go back to your humble and loving place. Thank you again for helping me to give back to the Senior Citizens and keeping them active. LAKESIDE POTTERY IS AMAZING AND I SUGGEST ANY AND EVERYONE EXPERIENCE IT AT LEAST ONE TIME. Until the next time we meet up keep having the passion and compassion for your CRAFT! kindly Cherry Stephens"

"Lakeside Pottery is a fantastic place whether you are simply curious about pottery, want to expand your skills, or are well established in the craft. I have attended classes at Lakeside over the last four years. There is something to learn each time. Morty and Patty are very generous with expert help, no matter what part of the process you need help with. The other instructors and some of the attendees are the best in their field and also offer their creative ideas and help. Morty is one of the best instructors I have ever had in any subject. He has a unique balance of patience, wisdom, and humor, while simultaneously giving the student space to explore their own ideas. Thanks to Morty, Patty, and everyone else there, Lakeside feels more like a community than just a pottery studio, offering a warm, congenial atmosphere to learn and express, or just have some fun! Tony"

"I've signed up for the beginner class at Lakeside Pottery and enjoyed the entire experience immensely. It has been a great pleasure to learn from people who are as courteous, helpful, and caring as Patty and Morty and their instructors. I loved the experience so much that I've since come in during the open studio hours many times to continue my learning and practice. I now have many great looking clay vessels that I'm proudly displaying at my home. It is a great and wondrous feeling to create art with your own two hands. "Restoring Josefina Aguilar Ceramic Sculpture. We recently had two large clay figures repaired at Lakeside Pottery. They were made by the world famous Mexican Folk Artist Josefina Aguilar. The two figures each 30” high were quite heavy and though professionally packed broke in shipment. The repairs required reconstructing complex shapes that had broken off the figures, adhering them to the body, and painting them to match the original colors. In addition a 10” long hairline stress crack up the back of one figure needed to be stabilized. To reconstruct the broken pieces, Lakeside Pottery used both primitive techniques employed by the artist, and cutting edge technology such as high strength adhesives, fiber and fillers. Using only materials that would not damage the art work, they restored the broken pieces so the repairs were stronger than the original clay construction. All the work was done with great care and expertise and when finished the repairs were invisible to the naked eye and touch. It was a pleasure working with ... "Lakeside Pottery - A rare gem. Whether you’re a beginner, intermediate or novice at pottery, Lakeside Pottery offers it all! Lakeside Pottery has a state of the art studio, with highly skilled and professional instructors that make learning pottery extremely enjoyable. I have been taking classes there for about 11 months. Prior to that time, I never did pottery in my life. I am now at an advanced level working on highly creative and complex projects, and the outcome has exceeded all my expectations! Mike"

"Commissioned Custommade - Pottery Bird House & Feeder” Good: Patty and Morty took a very personal interest in my project. They have the ability to uniquely balance the vision of the customer with artistic insight and suggestion - their approach is highly collaborative and delivers an extraordinary result!. Bad: There was nothing I did not like. Service, especially communication and updates on the status of my project were excellent. My items arrived in excellent condition and packaged with extreme care. Pricing was very fair and quality was superb.. Improvements: I think more information on commissioned work and easier navigation on the web site would be helpful in bringing this work to more people.. Other: I had a wonderful experience and would recommend this to anyone seeking a unique ceramic creation of any kind. Liz"

"Lakeside is a great space that has a wonderful vibe about it- the owners Patty and Morty are fantastic individuals and patient teachers. Overall, the perfect place to create and learn how to pot" Desiree Witt

"Love it. Extremely satisfying to make something unique. Teachers are great and extremely patient. I would recommend it to anyone, especially those who have stressful jobs and thing they don't have time"

"Taking classes at Lakeside Pottery has not only been a gift to me but also a great experience, lots of therapy, and a way to meet some wonderful people! Since the first day of taking classes at Lakeside I have felt nothing but welcoming, encouragement and sheer comfort from both owners Morty and Patty as well as their instructors! Whether it’s throwing on the wheel or making a hand-built project that your heart desires, they are always there guiding you and encouraging you through every piece. No matter what you’re making, a functional birdhouse, abstract sculpture or wall art, or even a child’s school project, when taking classes or private instruction at lakeside you can be sure to create something beautifully and artfully crafted and personalized by you with the help of their staff. And even if you can’t take an entire 8 or 6 week class, you still have the option of private instruction, 1-day wheel or hand-building workshops, open studio hours, or create an event of your own for you and your friends or a child’s birthday party! Lakeside Pottery is definitely a great gift for any person of any age, with or without any experience in pottery or art. You don’t have to be an artist to come here, so whether you’ve done art or not, here’s a great way to spend you’re holidays or any day! Besides, it’s a great excuse to get your hands dirty and have a good time!" Rachel

"Very user friendly; much needed in the community"

"The several hours that we spent in the workshop allowed our team, some of whom were virtual strangers, to converse with one another and create a display-worthy piece of art…all while taking advantage of each other's lack of innate pottery skill and laughing openly. It is a testament to you folks for creating an environment which was informational, educational, and most importantly comfortable, for everyone to feel at ease with their projects."

"Taking this class was very satisfying and great sense of accomplishment - the atmosphere very relaxed and comfortable"

"Great class - very encouraging. Have recommended to others. Look forward to returning for open studio / lessons"

"I enjoyed the class very much. Teachers are very kind & patient. Classmates were all very nice too! I learned a lot in 8 weeks! I'll be back!"

"Love the light, bright open space and the environment. Love all the personal attention w/ instruction both in class and what I experienced with open studio time. Thank you for the perfect environment for me - especially to help me get my creative juices flowing"

"Just great!"

"Learning to make pottery has been the most creative and rewarding hobby I have ever done. I love it!"

"Pathfinders Adventure Camp is a 7 week day camp offered by the City of Stamford that combines traditional camp activities with adventure based offerings. The common thread in all of our activities is that they are experiential in nature. We believe that our campers can learn best and have the most rewarding experience when they are engaged and immersed in their activities. Every summer we look to add new activity offerings that will compliment and diversify our program. In the summer of 2010 we began a partnership with Lakeside Pottery. In our quest to provide our students with a studio based learning experience, Lakeside Pottery proved to be exactly what we were looking for.

Over the past two summers we’ve been sending our campers to the Lakeside Pottery’s studio on Newfield Ave and we’ve gotten great feedback from our campers as well as their parents. The projects that our campers completed allowed them not only to have fun, but also to tap into their creative energy and add their own individual touch. They were able to learn hand building and sculpting techniques as well as glazing. The finished products were impressive to say the least. We are very happy to have a partner like Lakeside Pottery to provide our campers with a fun, hands-on learning opportunity. The experience that Lakeside Pottery and their teaching staff offer our campers is one of many ways that we challenge our campers to explore their potential.

We look forward to working with Lakeside Pottery in future summers. As a camp director I would highly recommend the Lakeside Pottery studio and staff to other summer programs."

"I just wanted to thank you so very much for hosting our daughter's 7th birthday party at your studio. The kids felt very special in such a professional yet warm environment. The parents thought it was an incredible studio with an amazing staff. The piece they created will last forever as the quality and creative touches were superior. I look forward to planning another party for my younger daughter when she turns 7! Thank you, Kristin"

"Hi Jon and Andrew (Morty and Patty),
Anna wanted to make sure I emailed you both to thank you for a wonderful pottery course! She raved about your program (which doesn't always happen with some of the activities that I sign her up for) and I know she'll want to return for more!
Many thanks and have a nice Easter! Keri"

"Patty and Morty,

I just wanted to thank you so much for the great workshop that you hosted yesterday. I thoroughly enjoyed my afternoon with you from beginning to end!

It was great to learn some hand-building techniques from Patty and actually get a chance to dig in myself. It's been such a long time since I've been in any type of art studio, so I was completely lost in my own creation.

Morty's demonstation made me want to jump in and throw my own pot! I have no prior 'throwing' experience, and I had no idea how much detail is involved in getting the clay to 'behave' as you want it to.

I learned so much in just those two hours and can only imagine how informative (and FUN!) your classes are. I will be seeing you both soon!

Many thanks again!

"Dear Morty,

I wanted to take this opportunity to formally thank you and the staff at Lakeside Pottery for hosting a wonderful training session for the Investor Relations team from DKR Capital. All too often corporate “team building” outings are overly structured and simply boring; our experience with you was the complete antithesis. From the moment we arrived and saw the much needed sundries, we knew we were in for an enjoyable experience.

The several hours that we spent in the workshop allowed our team, some of whom were virtual strangers, to converse with one another and create a display-worthy piece of art…all while taking advantage of each other’s lack of innate pottery skill and laughing openly. It is a testament to you folks for creating an environment which was informational, educational, and most importantly comfortable, for everyone to feel at ease with their projects.

Although we were all hesitant to see the finished products, much to everyone’s delight, the fired and glazed products were much more atheistically pleasing than the works in progress. In fact, I am most certain some were even given as gifts!

Thank you again for hosting our group and thank you for providing a fun and meaningful corporate training alternative.

Kind regards,

Lindsay Sabel

"Hi Morty,

I wanted to let you know that Jesse wants to do the second Spring. Tuesday afternoon session that begins April 28th. I also wanted to reserve him a spot in the summer camp program for the weeks of July 26th, August 2nd, 9th and 16th. .... He would like to do as much pottery as possible. I cannot tell you how much he is enjoying his class and he has only had two so far.

Thanks so much!

"Morty Bachar is a skilled potter, exceptional teacher and a kind, patient man. He successfully unites his tremendous knowledge of pottery, and his superior ability to teach with a sensitivity to his students' proficiency and learning style. He has many techniques for simplifying a particular skill to ensure the success of his students, while he can also describe in fascinating detail the process to those interested in learning the science behind the art.

The workshop Morty has created also represents him, being both peaceful and comfortable. Within this environment he uses an array of ever-growing, quality supplies and seemingly endless creative ideas all wrapped up in a delightful enthusiasm for his students and their work."

"Morty:

We want to send you a note a sincere thanks for your work in teaching our son Brendan pottery skills. While it may not seem like a special thing to you, it is a very special thing to us to see this child look forward to your class when almost every other class that he has tried has been an unsuccessful experience.

Part of the reason for this success is his genuine interest in working with the clay; but another part of the success is your ability to relate to him on a personal level. This special ability to engage a child with your craft is just great and we appreciate it.

So, again, many thanks and we look forward to Brendan attending many more classes with you.

Regards"

"My teenage daughter enjoys taking lessons from Morty Bachar so m

uch that she has been asking to work with him more than once a week. She has learned so much in such a short time that it has given her self confidence that is so important at this age.

Bachar is extremely knowledgeable as well as sensitive to the needs of his students. He uses a variety of techniques to help his students create beautiful pottery with the very first piece. When my daughter brought home her first pieces, she displayed them on her shelf for everyone to see when they first enter the house.

Morty builds confidence in the students ability and most importantly their enjoyment of the craft as well as a great sense of accomplishment. I am very pleased with my daughter's enthusiasm for learning."

To create a successful piece requires an understanding of both, and Morty carefully explains the "cause and effect" that your hands and tools have on the clay. "I have been taking pottery lessons for the past three months. I have to say, I have taken up many hobbies in the past, but learning to make pottery has been the most creative and rewarding hobby I have ever done. I love it! Although I have only been taking lessons for a few months, it feels much longer because I have learned a great deal in a short amount of time. I believe it is because I have been very fortunate to have a remarkable teacher, Morty Bachar. He wants you to learn and he wants you to enjoy it. Not only is he an incredible potter, full of knowledge, and passionate about his work -- he's also a patient and caring person. He pours himself into the love of the art - making pottery!"
